GEORGIA RADIO - The Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition, known as North America’s Premier Farm Show and the largest Farm Show in America with field demonstrations, is set to celebrate its 45th Anniversary from October 17th to 19th, 2023. With over 1,200 exhibitors, this year's event promises to be a remarkable showcase of the latest innovation and technology in the agriculture industry.
A significant highlight of the Expo is the crowning of the Sunbelt Ag Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year. Following a rigorous judging process, ten state winners will be in attendance to learn who will be selected as the overall winner. This year, the award ushers in a new era with fresh sponsors and a revamped program.
Education is at the heart of the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition, featuring over 300 seminars and demonstrations across various fields, including beef, dairy, poultry, forestry, pond management, equine, and cattle management. These educational opportunities are led by industry leaders and university specialists, providing farmers and ranchers with valuable knowledge of cutting-edge techniques.
The Expo collaborates with more than 20 education sponsors, including major universities and colleges. Six of these sponsors have permanent exhibit buildings on-site, contributing to the extensive educational offerings. The Expo will also feature Youth Educational Challenges for students in grades 6-12, an Ag Mechanics contest, and the Advocacy in Action contest for students interested in agriculture policy, law, and communication.
The Backyard Garden Area focuses on topics for specialty gardeners and is organized by Flint River Fresh. This display offers a wealth of information on gardening tips, tools, healthy recipes, and more. An exciting addition this year is the focus on "pollinator bees."
One of the crowd-pleasers is the 600-acre research farm's field demonstrations, which showcase harvesting and tillage equipment for multiple crops. Hay demos will also be a highlight, providing visitors with a comprehensive look at hay harvesting equipment in a real farm setting.
The 2023 Spotlight State is Alabama, inviting visitors to explore "Sweet Grown Alabama" and experience the state's agricultural offerings. For food enthusiasts, the Expo offers a delectable experience. The grounds feature a wide variety of delicious food, and several demonstration areas, such as the Aquaponics display, the Georgia Peanut Commission building, and the Georgia Grown Marketplace within the Family Living Building, host segments with chefs and food enthusiasts throughout the day.
The Expo caters to the entire family with a daily rolling Antique Tractor Parade and a new addition this year, the Antique Tractor Pull. Attendees can also enjoy the Cow Milking Contest held every afternoon, as well as rural lifestyle fun, truck, tractor, and ATV test drives. Chip Blalock, Show Director, expresses the essence of the Sunbelt Expo, saying, "It's 3-days of fun, education, and dreaming about agriculture’s future as we team together to feed, clothe and house a growing population around the world."
The Sunbelt Ag Expo will be open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Thursday. Admission at the gate is $10 per person per day, with advanced and discount tickets available for purchase online. The show site is located four miles southeast of Moultrie, Georgia, on Hwy 133.
